What is RARE?

The Recycling And Rubbish Exhibit (R.A.R.E.) is a two part program that offers Butte County residents of all ages a chance to learn about the dynamics of trash, recycling, composting, and American society's attitude toward waste habits.

The first part of R.A.R.E. is an exhibit consisting of over twenty hands-on interactive displays covering topics like the evolution of trash, anatomy of a landfill, composition of trash, composting with worms, hazardous waste, and recycling around the world.  The exhibit features a five foot tall garbage can, a walk through compost pile, a landfill room and much much more!%u2028

The second part of R.A.R.E. consists of an in-class follow up compost workshop. Students will learn the importance of composting and put together a worm bin to keep in the classroom.  Compost workshops are hands on and provide the students with an outlet to practice what they were taught at the exhibit.
