The Associated Students Structure
The Associated Students is a comprehensive campus auxiliary serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members. We are proud of our service to the campus community and our partnership with the University. We are a unique auxiliary in the California State University system because we operate the business enterprises (Bookstore and Dining Services), Student Union operations, WREC Center, a variety of student-centered programs, and all student governance.
When you review the endeavors of the AS, we trust you will be impressed at the multitude of services and programs we provide. Working in concert, our students and staff create a unique blend of professionalism, commitment, responsiveness and enthusiasm that makes the Associated Students an exciting and vibrant auxiliary.
The AS employs over 800 students each year. Students are also actively involved with the Associated Students through their association with our
staff-managed and student-run programs.
Staff-managed programs include Recycling, Sustainability, Adventure Outings, AS Presents, CAVE, Child Development Lab and the WREC. These programs have professional staff that are responsible for the student employees, interns and volunteers. Each of these programs has a significant number of student staff who are involved in the day-to-day programming. Professional staff work with students for long-term planning and allocation of funding.
The student run programs are CLIC, KCSC, EARC and the Women's Center. These programs are primarily student directed; each has a professional staff advisor as well as University faculty and staff to help them with long-range planning. These student directors are responsible for budgeting, programming and staffing as well as the day-to-day operations of their program.
The programs of the Associated Student are funded in different ways. Some programs are entirely funded by student fees i.e., KCSC, some programs are supported by student fees and create additional revenue for their program i.e., Adventure Outings and others are revenue dependent i.e., Dining Services.
